Description

Name: Kiyoharu Naoaki (last, first)
:bulletblack:Kiyoharu: Clear spring
:bulletblack:Naoaki: Prosper bright
Nicknames: Nao, Kawa
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Height: 172.72 cm (5’8’’)
Weight: 133 lbs.

Race: Half Kappa, Half Water Nymph; Locals in Japan came to call him ‘Kawatane’ (River offspring)

Additional Information about Race(s):
:bulletblack:Kappa: A traditionally Japanese creature known to live in lakes, rivers and streams. More information can be found here (it’s a short Wiki page, I promise, and worth reading): [link](folklore)
:bulletblack:Water Nymph: If you’ve read anything from Greek mythology, you probably know what a nymph is. A beautiful water spirit, basically, with rather large malicious streaks and a relatively seductive disposition. Mostly benevolent unless you screw with they habitat or get too close.
:bulletblack:‘Kawatane’: No one is entirely sure what Naoaki is capable of or what he did and did no inherit from his parents. He hasn’t got his father’s ‘allure’ as far as they can tell, though his father theorizes that once he gets more confidence he might develop the ability. Everything is mostly hit or miss ability wise.

Personality:
:bulletblack:Shy: Years of being shunned and looked down on as a crossbreed and abomination has made Naoaki very shy around new people. Once he gets to know you he’s just a little quiet, but otherwise not shy. He can seem timid when you first meet him.
:bulletblack:Self Conscious: Again, because he’s used to people being awful to him, he’s always nervous he’s doing something wrong or going to upset someone.
:bulletblack:Quiet: Naoaki often keeps his thoughts to himself and tries not to be noticed, as he is used to being yelled at and told he’s wrong by other people.
:bulletblack:Polite: Kappa are known for being very polite, and it’s something he inherited from that side of his genealogy. He is generally just a nice person, but due to this inherited trait, he is likely to be polite even in the worst situations.
:bulletblack:Kind, caring: Naoaki is really just a nice person, and he likes taking care of and helping others. He’s the sort of person who would show up late to a meeting because he helped a single mother carry her groceries home.
:bulletblack:Determined, hard working: Driven by the desire to please others, Naoaki works hard to do everything perfectly and to the tee. If he thinks he can do something better, he will rework it until he thinks it’s perfect. (He’s a perfectionist, mostly.)
:bulletblack:Happy: Naoaki is just generally a happy person. He doesn’t like being sad or upset, and he likes smiling, even if it’s small and shy.
:bulletblack:Mischievous: Like many supernatural creatures, Naoaki can get very tricky and playful. It’s mostly all just harmless jokes and tricks, unless he doesn’t like you in which case one should be careful.
:bulletblack:Malicious: Naoaki isn’t usually at all malicious, and it quite benevolent. But if you get him angry enough and or cause him to feel enough hatred, he’s rather dangerous. He gets this mostly from his father, whose race are much more prone to violence than his mother’s.
:bulletblack:Sarcastic/Snarky: Usually only in his head, but again, something he got from his father. He’ll only be outwardly like this if he trusts and knows you well.
:bulletblack:Tricky: Naoaki is very good at tricking people and can get himself in and out of situations with a few words, mostly a talent he gets from his father.

Likes:
:bulletblack:Food: Cucumbers, fish, sushi, noodles, eggs, rice candies
:bulletblack:Things: Storms/Monsoons, bodies of water, the artic seal plush his mother bought him when he was a baby
:bulletblack:Colors: Blue, green, white
:bulletblack:Animals: Aquatic animals, birds, white tigers
:bulletblack:Actions: Walking around barefoot

Dislikes:
:bulletblack:Food: Red meat, collards greens, pepper, peanut butter
:bulletblack:Things: Animal traps, fishing nets, small enclosed spaces
:bulletblack:Colors: Yellow
:bulletblack:Animals: Slugs, seagulls, those little dogs that yap and bite you a lot
:bulletblack:Actions: Yelling

Bio: Despite the fact that most other kappas and water nymphs viewed Naoaki as an abomination and a halfbreed, his parents both loved him very much. His father was a powerful water nymph and quickly found a new home for his wife and son.
They lived there until Naoaki was ten, at which time his mother died. Naoaki managed to live with his father another three years before he decided he needed to go and find somewhere where he might be able to fit in amongst other outcasts and learn about himself better.
His father agreed that he needed somewhere where he wouldn’t have to be afraid of always being hurt by others and where he could learn to stand up for himself and control his powers. He gave Naoaki his mother’s necklace (which his father gave her as a sort of mating gift) before he left.
Naoaki traveled for years, finding odd places to stay and keeping mostly to himself. He usually left a town behind having helped at least one person and sent messages to his father often. Eventually though traveling got to be a bit much and there was just too much risk, so he started looking for somewhere where outcasts all congregated.
He managed to find Outcast Academy and applied.

Any Talents?:
:bulletblack:Science: Naoaki has a very good understanding of basic elements and also of ecology, he’s just overall good at science. Usually because most chemicals and ecosystems are based in water.
:bulletblack:Helping out: Naoaki is very helpful by nature, and will always lend a hand where it is needed.
:bulletblack:Music: He can play the panpipes and the flute, and is very good at picking up how to play different instruments.
:bulletblack:Cooking: Mostly he’s good at cooking rice, fish and noodle dishes. Mostly Japanese based cuisine.
:bulletblack:Taking care of others: Naoaki likes to help people, so he’s gotten very good at attending to others. He makes a good partner when studying or working on a project, also in battle situations.
:bulletblack:Fighting: Because of being an outcast his life’s been rather rocky, and he’s taught himself how to fight pretty damn well. His father was also very active in trying to understand how his abilities worked and how to help his son learn to defend himself.
:bulletblack:Surviving in the wild: He’s lived near, in or around forests and mountains most of his life, so they’re sort of a second home to him. He’s also very good at not getting lost.

What about Weaknesses?:
:bulletblack:Electricity: As a being of water, electricity/lightning is liable to be either a strength or a weakness depending on how one uses it. If applied correctly he could use his own body as a natural conductor, but if used incorrectly it could rip his body apart.
:bulletblack:Drought, dehydration: Again, as a being of water, moisture is essential for him. He can live in somewhere like a desert as long as he has plenty of water to drink, and usually can pull moisture from the air and atmosphere around him when he needs to. Of course, he prefers to take long baths and swim a lot to keep himself hydrated.
:bulletblack:Negative emotions: Naoaki has a hard time with coping with both his own and other people’s negative emotions. He’s the type to just bottle up what he’s feeling and hide it in the back of his mind till it boils over. When other people are feeling upset or negative, he gets very docile and worried that he’s the one upsetting them.
:bulletblack:Emotions (Negative continued): Naoaki’s emotions effect his powers very much. When he gets overwhelmed, scared, angry, ect., his powers tend to take on a mind of their own. In this way, he often begins ‘dissolving’ objects and things around him into water. He can right this once he calms down, however he has no control over it as long as he is feeling X emotion. It takes him really losing control for this to happen though.
:bulletblack:Loneliness: He gets lonely very easily, though he’s very much used to it at this point so he doesn’t really show that he’s feeling that way.
:bulletblack:Hand to hand combat: He can use martial arts, and he’s good at them, but his body wasn’t made to be a hand to hand fighter. He’s much better at using his own supernatural abilities to fight and summon weapons.
:bulletblack:Promises: Much like his Kappa brethren, he has a very hard time breaking a promise and feels exceedingly guilty if he does, to the point of not eating until the matter is cleared up and he has the person’s forgiveness.
:bulletblack:Self doubt: This usually only happens in domestic situations, but it has a very big impact sometimes. Without someone he trusts around to pick him back up, he’s likely to start doubting everything he’s done and is doing.

Preferred Dorm: Equa Dorm, though he’s used to colder climates also, he’d prefer one somewhere in between. Obviously a hotter climate would make it harder for him to retain the moisture he needs to stay alive.

Powers/Abilities:
:bulletblack:Transformation: Kappas are known shape shifters, changing from humanoid forms to big dark horses, fish, and toads as well as several other creatures. (This relates them to the other aquatic “monster” the kelpie) Another inherited trait from his mother is this ability, though for some reason he can only turn himself in a big black dog.
:bulletblack:Water Control: As one would expect, Naoaki has control over the water, and uses it to fight. However considering his control is a hybrid of Kappa and Water Nymph, he’s had no one to teach him, and is still trying to figure some things out. Namely how to stop his emotions from activating his power over the water. For example when he becomes extremely angry or upset, water will begin boiling and steaming. If he gets upset or emotionally overwhelmed enough, he will accidentally begin sapping the moisture from things around him.
:bulletblack:Purification: Like most creatures of water, Naoaki has the ability to purify water, poison and demonic wounds. He’s still learning how to properly control his however, and it takes a lot of his energy.
:bulletblack:(Not sure what to call this ability): Naoaki can basically turn himself into water, but only when he’s underwater. It’s mostly that his body breaks down into water and keeps the relative shape of his body. One could see the difference between the normal water and him if they looked very carefully. (This he gets from his nymph side.)
:bulletblack:Breathing underwater: Sort of a given.
:bulletblack:‘Creating’ Water: It’s no so much creation as being able to take the moisture from the air and things around him. It’s an ability most water creatures have without even knowing it, as it’s the only way they manage to survive on land. For whatever reason though, Naoaki’s control over this goes a little beyond that to where he can consciously take in and extract the water. (This is the power that loses control when he is overwhelmed.)

General Additional Information:
Why he is viewed as an Outcast: Generally, crossbreeding and or cross species relations aren’t really a taboo or a bad thing. Usually one species’ genes overtake the others and you’ll get a pure child, or one with very minor traits of the second parent.
However some creatures are specifically tabooed to reproduce because they either produce children with deformations that makes it impossible for them to live, or overpowered children that are anomalies and hard to control.
There’s no encyclopedia of species not meant to mix though, so sometimes it’s very hit or miss. The easiest way to determine whether or not crossbreeding is okay is if the creature is on the same power level as you or not, spiritually/supernaturally speaking. If it is, and you are also of the same element, it will prove difficult for one set of genes to overtake the other.
Naoaki is a product of a Kappa (his mother) and a Water Nymph (his father). These two combined created him, who has both traits of his father and his mother, and appearances a mix of both as well. Because of this, he fit in with neither race and was quickly shunned.
His parents were okay with this though, and quickly found a nice riverside town in Japan to raise their son in.

Pets: He has a pet otter named Masaharu (elegant spring) and a pet door mouse named Atsunaka (kindly friendship). Atsunaka usually rides around in his pocket or hood during the day, and Masaharu stays either on his bed or in the tank he bought for him.

Nationality: Half Japanese, half unknown. His mother was Japanese and his father was from somewhere around Europe they think.

Sexuality: Bisexual

Relationship with Humans: Naoaki has had a very hit or miss relationship to humans his whole life. As a ‘monster’ obviously many people despise him and look down on him, making it hard to interact with humanity. However on the same note, both water nymphs and kappas have had a sort of mutual understanding with humans throughout history. In Japan at least, kappas, while feared, are also respected, and the same goes for water nymphs. This has given Naoaki a bit of mixed feelings for humans. In the town he grew up near, most people were alright with and even liked him (it was a very small Japanese town well versed in the old ways). Travelers were not so kind however, and while he himself was traveling he’s met many people who would rather just hate him off the bat.
Because of his personality, Naoaki would rather not automatically assume any one person is bad or evil based upon appearances, but rather on actions. So he holds no lasting hate for humanity, though sometimes when things have gotten particularly rough, he’s thought about hating them. In the end though, his personality just won’t allow for full hatred, so he has a very large amount of caution as far as humans come.
